"A Bend in the River"
(in the South Gallery) Jason Ferguson
April 29th - June 25th, 2006
Opening Reception:
Saturday April 29th, 2006, 7-10 pm
In a collaborative project, Ingalls & Associates Gallery and Barbara Gillman Gallery are pleased to present two solo exhibitions by artists Brandon Opalka and Jason Ferguson. Opalka and Ferguson, two-thirds of the renowned Miami- based collaborative FeCuOp, will be exhibiting independently their respective new bodies of work while complementing the cohesiveness of their past collaborations.
Brandon Opalka’s Light Forces on the Dark Side, is step further into the artist’s ongoing investigation of phenomenology and transference. His method of image manipulation incorporates fundamentals of formal theory, street art and technology. The end result is the development of a body of work that addresses the conceptual, social and aesthetic concepts of graffiti and abstract expressionism formalized in a gallery context. Opalka’s paintings act as metaphors for his studies into his experiences of expression.
A Bend in the River, V.S. Nipaul’s Nobel Prize winning novel on the essence of finding identity, is channeled throughout Jason Ferguson’s new body of work. Ferguson, like Nipaul, is of Trinidadian descent finds parallel similarities with Nipaul’s and his own personal experiences. With this insight, he intends to evoke a sense of nostalgia that is, in essence, the reality of Ferguson’s childhood. Ferguson’s work depicts his strong sense of formal design along with socio-political and personal commentary.
The exhibitions will on view from April 29 – June 25, 2006 at Ingalls & Associates. A reception will be held for the artists on Saturday, April 29 from 7-10 PM at 125 NW 23rd Street, Miami, FL. For more information call Barbara Gillman on 305.573.1920 or Chris Ingalls on 786.546.3636. |
